Bend Police Traffic Team wins obstacle course

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department would like to congratulate the Bend Police Traffic Team on an incredible accomplishment.

On May 14-16 th of this year, the team traveled to Kennewick, Washington to participate in the North American Motor Officer Association (NAMOA) Training. NAMOA was created in 1982 and actually started as the Oregon/Washington Motor Officers Association.

The goal of OWMOA was to give motor officers a pathway to obtain the best quality training available, knowing riding a motorcycle in addition to performing normal activities makes it on a daily basis one of the most dangerous jobs in law enforcement.

We are proud to tell you the Bend Police Department’s Traffic Unit won the team obstacle course award for the second year in a row.

There were over 100 riders from Oregon, Washington and Canada, with both large and small teams being represented. The team trophy is the most coveted award given. The officers who represented our agency this year took the overall win by over 20 seconds to the next-closest team, said Lt. Clint Burleigh.

The officers on the City of Bend Traffic Team are dedicated to traffic safety by working collaboratively with other agencies in our area. They train hard to keep themselves safe and they work hard enforcing traffic laws to keep our community safe while commuting on our roadways. The number one goal of our officers is to prevent serious injuries or deaths on our roadways.
