A 24-year-old San Diego man was in serious condition Tuesday at a Bend hospital, more than a week after police say he was thrown from his motorcycle when he ran a stop sign and collided with a car at a northwest Bend intersection Monday afternoon.

Kenneth Tello was riding a motorcycle shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, June 29, when he collided with a 2014 Porsche driven by Douglas Kerkoch, 57, of Bend, at the intersection of Northwest Ogden Avenue and Ninth Street, said Lt. Clint Burleigh.

Tello was heading east on Ogden when he “went through the stop sign without slowing or stopping” and collided with the car heading south on Ninth Street, Burleigh said.

Both vehicles left the road and ended up in a home’s front yard on Ogden Avenue.

Bend Fire Department medics took Tello to St. Charles Bend, where he initially was listed in critical condition.

Burleigh said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Bend Police Traffic Team conducted an investigation that kept the intersection closed for more than five hours.
