Redmond man arrested in Police Dept. incident
A 29-year-old Redmond man tried to break the windows of patrol cars parked at the Redmond Police Department, challenged responding officers with a knife and eventually was subdued with a Taser and taken into custody Monday morning, officers said.
Officers were dispatched at 7:14 a.m. regarding a man trying to break the windows of patrol cars in the rear parking lot of police headquarters, located at 777 Southwest Deschutes Avenue, said Sgt. Hank Majetich.
They found the man, whose name was withheld due to federal patient privacy rules, hiding in the bushes next to the building, said Sgt. Hank Majetich.
When contacted, the man brandished a box knife and challenged the officers, while also beginning to cut his wrists, Majetich said. The man ignored commands to drop the knife, and officers subdued him with the Taser and took him into custody without further incident.
Officers later learned the man also tried to break office windows at the police department, causing minor damage to some exterior fixtures, the sergeant said.
The man was treated at the scene by Redmond Fire Department medics, then later taken to St. Charles Redmond for other medical and mental health issues.
He later was taken to the Deschutes County Jail on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
Majetich offered thanks to community members for their assistance in the investigation.
