Update: Tip leads to missing Polk County child, woman

KTVZ

Polk County sheriff’s deputies said Friday afternoon that a missing woman who took a 9-month-old girl against a court order had been found in Portland, along with the child.

Earlier Friday, deputies asked the public to help them find the couple who don’t have parental rights to the child.

Deputies said the case of custodial interference involved Robert Norton, 61, and Tonya Malarkey, 44. They said the couple could be traveling with a 9-month-old girl that is 25 inches tall and weighs only 12 pounds.

Around 2 p.m., Portland police responded to a tip called in near the Jantzen Beach Oxford Inn. Malarkey was located, along with the girl. She was taken into custody and the baby was taken by ambulance to a hospital “for medical issues.”

Authorities had no immediate word about Norton’s whereabouts.

Anyone who spotted the pair or the Ford pickup they were last seen in had been urged to call 911, as deputies said “the child may be in danger.”
