Bend Parks & Rec youth basketball sign-ups underway

KTVZ

Local youth are invited to participate in the Bend Park and Recreation District’s Youth Basketball League. The league is open to boys and girls in 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th grades. The deadline to register is Sunday, November 8 th .

The fee is $70 for in-district residents and $84 for those that live outside the district boundaries. Participants can register online at www.bendparksandrec.org.

Focusing on the fun and excitement of basketball, the league promotes physical fitness and teaches sportsmanship lessons about teamwork and fair play as well as basic basketball fundamentals and game play. Teams practice at local elementary schools twice-a-week in the evening and play games on Saturdays. The season runs January 4 through March 12, 2016.

Adult volunteers are needed to coach youth teams. Volunteer coaches are an essential part of the program, providing support with logistics and mentoring youth. Volunteers must enjoy working with elementary school age youth and be able to create a positive, encouraging recreational environment for all players. Safety is top priority, so all coaches must complete a volunteer application and online concussion awareness training and pass a criminal history background check. An online volunteer application is available at www.bendparksandrec.org.
