SE Bend house fire prompts reminder: Watch the stove
Smoke detectors alerted the occupants of a southeast Bend home to a kitchen fire that caused about $10,000 damage Saturday night, was caused by unattended cooking on the stove top, officials said.
Crews were called to the home at 21211 Southeast Darnel Avenue around 9:45 p.m., said Bend Fire Department Capt. Justin Struhs.
The stove top fire resulted in the loss of a microwave oven and also damaged the kitchen cabinets above the stove, Struhs said.
The smoke alarms sounded, alerting the residents, and everyone was able to get out safely, the fire captain said.
Losses were estimated at $8,000 to the structure and $2,000 to contents. A total of 16 firefighters and three engines were called to the scene.
“Bend Fire would like to remind people not to leave items on the stove, even for a short time,” Struhs said.
