Bend declares emergency for more shelter space
Bend City Manager Eric King issued a declaration of emergency on Nov. 10 in anticipation of severe weather conditions.
The declaration allows for facilities that don’t otherwise provide temporary shelter to do so after fire and safety inspections. Severe weather conditions can result in local shelters reaching capacity, creating a need for temporary housing facilities within the city.
The declaration is valid when overnight temperatures are expected to be 25 degrees Fahrenheit or below and area shelters have reached capacity. Weather forecasts are calling for overnight lows in this range in the near future.
The Bend City Council will ratify the declaration on Wednesday. The emergency is in effect until February 29, 2016.
