C.O. Hunger Prevention Coalition aids 16 free meal providers
Sixteen Central Oregon free meal providers recently received checks together totaling $50,000 from the Hunger Prevention Coalition.
The amount represents funds collected between July 1 and Sept. 30 through the ‘Help Fill Empty Plates’ campaign at local retailers and through the ‘GoGolf’ fundraiser hosted by Newport Avenue Market.
These meal providers serve many thousands of meals every month to needy families, the elderly, disabled, homeless, unemployed and underemployed. Each agency will submit receipts to prove that their funds were used to increase the nutritional value of the meals they serve.
Agencies selected by the volunteer-run Hunger Prevention Coalition for funding this year are: Bend’s Community Center, the Bethlehem Inn, Central Oregon Council on Aging, Community of Christ Church, Family Kitchen, The Giving Plate, Nativity Lutheran Church Food Pantry, Saving Grace, St. Vincent de Paul (Bend, La Pine, Prineville, Redmond), The Shepherd’s House, Holy Trinity Care and Share, La Pine Community Kitchen, and House of Hope Ministries.
The mission of the Hunger Prevention Coalition is to ensure funding for nonprofit agencies proven to provide nutritious food for our neighbors in need in Central Oregon.
