Holiday kitchen fire heavily damages NE Bend home

KTVZ

A Thanksgiving night kitchen fire extensively damaged a northeast Bend home and brought the American Red Cross to help four roommates find shelter for the evening, fire officials said.

Losses were estimated at $90,000 from the fire, reported around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at a two-story home at 1885 Northeast Yellowstone Lane, said Fire Inspector Steve Stenkamp with Bend Fire and Rescue.

The first crews to arrive found a working fire in the kitchen and residents evacuated, Stenkamp said.

The home sustained extensive damage in the kitchen and heavy smoke damage throughout the upper story, he said. Losses were estimated at $75,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Stenkamp said.

A Red Cross Disaster Team volunteer responded and provided assistance for immediate basic needs, as well as help with temporary lodging and recovery information, officials said.

A total of 19 personnel were called out, along with four engines.
