High Desert Museum offers kids’ summer camps

KTVZ

The High Desert Museum is offering week-long, summer camps that focus on nature, art and science for kids in grades K-5th from June 20 through August 26.

The camps are broken down by grade the child would enter in the fall. With different themes each week, the camps will spark imaginations, inspire and enrich kids through unique, hands-on experiences. Camp themes cover a wide variety of subjects, including wildlife care, geology, inventing, wilderness survival and engineering.

“We’re very excited about the themes we’ve created for this summer’s camps,” said Carolyn Nesbitt, the Museum’s curator of education. “This is my son’s third summer at High Desert, and my daughter’s second summer and they are adamant about not being anywhere else!” said camper parent Chi Kirsh.

Camps run from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm daily. All the camps are five days long, except for the July 5-8 camp which is four days long due to the Museum being closed on Fourth of July.

Registration for these popular camps opens March 1, 2016 and optional extended care is available. Parents are encouraged to check the website to register and for waitlist information.

Cost for the 5-day camps is $170 for members and $195 for non-members. The 4-day camp cost for members is $136 and $156 for non-members. Optional extended care costs are: 7:00 am – 9:00 am, $40/week ($32/week for the 4-day camp), 3:00 pm – 5:15 pm, $40/week ($32/week for the 4-day camp) and for both mornings and afternoons, $65/week ($52/week for the 4-day day).
