KTVZ

The High Desert Region Porsche Club of America (Bend) recently donated $3,600 to the High Desert Driver Education Program. This fund will pay for 40 students to take SkidCar training with Deschutes County.

The Deschutes County SkidCar can simulate the driving conditions of rain, ice and snow, while allowing drivers to gain experience and confidence in a safe and controlled environment.

Deschutes County offers SkidCar training classes seven days a week, with a maximum of three participants per class. Permitted drivers (age 15 and older) are welcome to take the course. The cost is $90 per person.

Each class offers one hour of classroom instruction followed by three hours of hands-on driving. Each graduate is provided with a letter and certificate of completion. Many insurance companies will offer premium discounts for completing the course.

High Desert Driver Education Program serves students in the local school districts of Bend-La Pine, Crook County, Redmond, and Sisters, private schools and home school students.
