Fire destroys Madras mobile home; resident escapes

KTVZ

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a mobile home along Highway 97 in Madras Wednesday morning, but the resident escaped without serious injury, officials said.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 crews responded at 6 a.m. to the reported structure fire at 1520 Southwest Highway 97, said Fire Chief Brian Huff.

They arrived to find the single-wide mobile home fully involved, with the sole occupant already outside. Jefferson County EMS medics treated the resident for minor smoke inhalation.

A dozen firefighters were called out, along with two engines and a water tender, and were able to quickly knock down the fire, but it was deemed a total loss, Huff said. The home’s value was $4,900. Fire crews were on scene for about 2 hours.

The cause of the fire was undetermined after a primary investigation. Huff said the resident reported having a working smoke alarm, but damage near the ceiling was too great to confirm that.
