USFS reopens Rimrock Trailhead
The Deschutes National Forest said it will be reopening the area informally known as ‘Good Dog” Monday The area just west of Bend on the Cascade Lakes Highway had been closed for the construction of the new Rimrock Trailhead and parking area.
The parking area at the Rimrock Trailhead has been graded and graveled.
The next phase of the project, which is anticipated to begin the fall of 2017, will include paving of a path that will connect Rimrock to the city of Bend. Additionally, accessible parking spaces and a segment of the entry road will also be paved, kiosks will be installed to provide forest information and large boulders will be placed on the perimeter of the parking area to prevent parking out of the designated area.
Construction began at Rimrock Trailhead on October 24 and temporarily closed the popular area for public safety while crews worked in the area.
The new trailhead will serve as a connection point on a path that will travel from the Bend Park and Recreation District Haul Road to the new Cascade Lakes Welcome Station Deschutes National Forest.
