Bend businesses enjoy Cyber Monday sales surge
Early Cyber Monday reports show it could be a record-breaking year for online shopping. According to Adobe Systems Inc., consumers were expected to spend over $3.3 billion on their cyber loot, and Central Oregon businesses are getting in on the action.
Bend-based Silipint was cranking out holiday orders Monday.
“This month is especially busy on web sales,” said Kira Kelley, lead orchestrator for the company. “Just over this last weekend, with the Thanksgiving (holiday) and with a Black Friday promotion and another Cyber Monday one, we’ve had 300 percent as many orders as we usually do over a weekend,”
According to the National Retail Federation, 122 million Americans plan to shop online this Cyber Monday. While big-box stores are no doubt raking it in, local businesses are also profiting.
“It has a tremendously great impact on our business,” said Heather Nashelle, owner of Nashelle Jewelry. “Last year, we did 18 times what we would do on a traditional online day, and we are trending the same today. So it’s very successful for us.”
Nashelle has been operating her handmade jewelry business in Bend for 15 years, and said an online sales presence is a valuable tool.
“It’s a third of our business,” she said. “We have three channels. We do wholesale, retail, online and it’s a third of our business, so I would say it’s very important,. .
