BLM plans Thursday prescribed burn near La Pine
Fuels specialists with the Bureau of Land Management Prineville District Office will be continuing with their winter prescribed burning program Thursday along State Recreation Road, ½ mile east of La Pine State Park and eight miles north of La Pine.
Temperatures, moisture and winds are favorable for crews to burn 50 acres of hand piles. The material is left-over from a thinning project designed to reduce hazardous fuels around La Pine State Park and along State Rec. Road, the main access road to the park.
No road closures or delays are expected, but smoke may be seen from Highway 97, along State Rec. Road and from Deschutes Recreation Homes #4 subdivision.
Officials said the project will take one day to complete, and the area will be patrolled for several days following ignitions.
All controlled burns are completed in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Forestry smoke management plan.
