WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say an SUV may have lost traction due to icy conditions when it collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 5 near Woodburn Saturday, killing the driver and a passenger.

Capt. Bill Fugate said in a news release Sunday that the crash killed the 36-year-old driver, Elman Gonzalez. A 23-year-old passenger, Marlin Hernandes, died of her injuries at Salem Hospital. Two others in the Toyota 4Runner received minor injuries. All four are Springfield residents.

Fugate says the SUV was on the southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp Saturday afternoon when the driver lost control and it slid across the southbound lanes of I-5, where it collided with a semi-trailer. The driver of the semi was not injured.
