A seriously injured stabbing victim showed up at the St. Charles Bend emergency room on Thursday, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old Sisters man on attempted murder and other charges, accused of stabbing a 29-year-old man several times at a Sisters home, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Friday.

Bend police were dispatched to St. Charles Bend shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday on the report of a stabbing victim, said sheriff’s Sgt. Don Manning.

After it was determined the assault had occurred in Sisters, sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to the hospital and the scene in Sisters for an investigation and served a search warrant at the home, located in the 500 block of South Pine Street, Manning said.

An investigation determined that Peter Kanzig had stabbed Kyle Benhower several times at the home, causing serious injuries. Benhower was in fair condition Friday at the Bend hospital, officials said.

Kanzig was arrested and booked into the county jail in Bend Thursday night on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Initial bail was set at $360,000.

Manning said any further information would be released by sheriff’s detectives. The sheriff’s office asked the public to contact the agency at 541-693-6911 with any information pertaining to the stabbing.
