Bend Park and Rec has 3 big upgrades in sight
Master plans for three large projects to upgrade facilities were discussed and approved Tuesday eveninb by the Bend Park and Rec Board, but there’s still months if not years of work ahead to bring them to fruition.
The plans include new features for Big Sky Park, Juniper Park and the current Bend Senior Center, the newly named Larkspur Center.
Planned changes to Big Sky Park include an addition to Hamby Road, new driving aisles, more parking spaces, bike trail areas and sports field lighting.
Improvements to Juniper Park include replacement of the restrooms and playground, more parking, a disc golf course and picnic area.
The Bend Senior Center also has a major expansion in the works. Plans calls for 40,000 square feet of new space, a warm water pool, and multi-purpose gym.
“The master plan is the big picture plan,” said Michelle Healy, planning and parks services director. “So it doesn’t mean everything in a master plan is going to get built right away, and there will be some long-term things that we’ll look at over the years.”
“There’s more data that gets collected, we work with engineers when we have to work in roadways and parkways, and things like that,” she said.
Healy said it will take several years for each of the projects to become a reality after more work on designs, planning and funding.
