Car crashes into home south of Redmond; no injuries

A car left a road, traveled across several fields and smashed completely into a home south of Redmond Sunday morning, but the woman and two children inside the car were unhurt — and the homeowner was away at church at the time, authorities said.

The crash, reported just before 10:30 a.m., heavily damaged a home in the 7100 block of Southwest 51st Street, also damaging a couple of fences on nearby Quarry Avenue.

The woman driving her two children down Southwest 51st Street felt dizzy – and the next thing she knew, she was inside a house, Redmond fire officials said.

Her car traveled through several fields for a few hundred yards before crashing into the house.

Neighbors heard a commotion from next door.

“My wife and I were coming out to run some errands, and we heard a strange noise, and looked around – we didn’t see anything,” Gene Anderson said. “A couple seconds later, we heard an explosion, or what we thought was someone blowing up some sage rats in the field next door. Got to looking around and realized there was a car in our neighbor’s house.”

The homeowner, an 88-year-old man, is probably glad it happened on a Sunday, when he was away at church. His black lab, Star, was on hand for the cleanup, also fortunate he wasn’t in the part of the home destroyed by the wayward driver.

Authorities were investigating whether a medical condition might have played a factor in the crash.
