(Update: sheriff’s office corrects name; fixing typos)

An 18-year-old Madras man died at St. Charles Bend Monday night, a few hours after his pickup truck left a road north of Madras and overturned several times, Jefferson County and Bend hospital officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 6:15 p.m. to the reported crash on North Adams Drive near Northwest Dogwood Lane, said Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn.

The responding deputy found a small pickup had flipped and was on its passenger side, with the driver, later identified as Angel Arzate Rosales, badly injured. The deputy began administering first aid and coordinated bringing fire and medical personnel to the scene.

Jefferson County fire crews were able to remove the driver and EMS continued medical treatment until the teen was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Madras, Heckathorn said.

Around 8:45 p.m., Rosales was placed on a fixed-wing air ambulance plane and flown to St. Charles Bend, where a house supervisor later confirmed he had died despite efforts to save him.

Rosales was alone in the truck and the crash occurred on a straight stretch of road with no intersections, the undersheriff said.

An Oregon State Police trooper was called in for crash reconstruction, closing Adams Drive for several hours.

Based on preliminary information, Heckathorn said it appeared Rosales had left his home near the crash scene and was heading toward Madras when the pickup left the road shoulder, the driver over-corrected and the pickup fishtailed and flipped several times.

No other factors had been identified as contributing factors in the crash. The driver was wearing his seat belt and not thrown from the vehicle.
