PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 25-year-old man who has been allowed to stay in the U.S. because he was brought into the country illegally as a child will be released on bond after his weekend detention.

Rose M. Richeson, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Monday that Francisco J. Rodriguez Dominguez was targeted because he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUII in December. He will be released pending a deportation hearing before an immigration judge.

Rodriguez Dominguez was arrested Sunday.

He participates in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA policy, which grants two years of work permission and protection from deportation to certain immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

He was brought to the U.S. from Morelia, in Mexico’s Michoacan state, at age 5.
