Warm and sunny today, isolated storms Sunday

Local Alert Weather Day Sunday into early Memorial Day

There is a chance for isolated thunderstorms to develop late in the day Sunday therefore we have issued a Local Alert Weather Day for Sunday that will linger into Monday morning.   The storms will develop in the heat of the afternoon and linger into the night. There will be some lingering showers and a few storms early Monday, but mainly light rain over the mountains is expected Memorial Day.

The Yellow Alert Day is issued when weather may be impacting your plans but not overwhelmingly disruptive. We need you to be weather aware on Sunday night and Monday as a good deal of outdoor plans are in place. No severe weather is expected, just general thunderstorm activity.  Lightning is dangerous so we want you to have a plan in place to get to a safe zone if you hear the thunder.  If there were severe storms in the forecast, we would issue a Red Alert Day.

Before the rainy and stormy weather arrives, Saturday kicks off the three-day weekend with highs in the low 80s and upper 70s. Expect this to be the beginning of a well above normal run that will extend into the short work week.

Sunday will be another warm day to start as the mercury hits the low 80s once again.  As the day moves along the clouds will fill in ahead of the storms. As mentioned above, the chance for isolated storms arrives late in the day, so if you are enjoying a hike or any outdoor activity, stay alert for thunder and take cover when you hear it.

Overnight into Memorial Day there is a chance for some isolated showers to arrive, and maybe some thunder. These showers will be over by the early morning of Memorial Day and we should see a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the low 70s as cooler air arrives.  Some light rain may linger over the mountains, but not translate to the high desert.

Starting Tuesday, the short work week will be mainly warm and dry with highs in the upper 70s and low to middle 80s under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Please stay safe.
