Accused Bend babysitter seeking lower bail

One week after a judge raised her bail from $200,000 to $500,000, a Bend babysitter accused of leaving seven young children home alone on numerous occasions is seeking a reduced bail – a move the Deschutes County district attorney opposes.

Last week, Circuit Judge Beth Bagley raised the bail from an initial $200,000 to $500,000 after January Neatherlin, 31, was formally indicted on 114 charges: 76 counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and 38 counts of recklessly endangering another person.

She’s accused of leaving two to seven young children in her care alone in her house several times when she went to the gym or a tanning salon.

Neatherlin’s attorney, Matthew Baughman, requested the expedited hearing to request a reduction in bail and it was scheduled for Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Hummel told NewsChannel 21 he will oppose the bail-reduction request.

Neatherlin, also known as January Livsey is scheduled to enter a plea to the charges on April 13.
