Deschutes Co. to mark Crime Victims’ Rights Week
Deschutes County will observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week during the week of April 2 -8. Each April since 1981, The United States Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime has helped lead communities in the annual observance of victims’ rights. During this week, communities across the country promote victims’ rights, honor crime victims and recognize those who advocate on their behalf.
“Deschutes County residents are privileged to live in a community with such strong support for victims of crime,” said District Attorney John Hummel. “Victim advocates, Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice, Saving Grace, KIDS Center, CASA and many other service groups, agencies and organizations work tirelessly to advocate for victims of crime. On behalf of victims of crime I thank them for their service.”
Local events kick off at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the County Administration Building (1300 Wall Street), in the Barnes and Sawyer Conference Room. The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners will read a proclamation declaring the week of April 2 -8 as Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Deschutes County. Deschutes County Victims’ Assistance Program Coordinator Ashley Beatty will then announce the local winners of the awards for service to victims of crime.
This event is open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
