Dumpster fire doused behind Redmond Cinemas
A dumpster fire behind a Redmond movie theater spread to the adjacent exterior wall Sunday afternoon, but an employee with a fire extinguisher helped keep it in check until firefighters could put it out, officials said.
Redmond Fire and Rescue responded around 2:20 p.m. to the reported dumpster fire behind the Redmond Cinemas at 1535 SW Odem Medo Road, said Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.
An employee who spotted the fire called 911 and notified the on-duty manager and fellow employees, then used a dry chemical extinguisher to initially knock the fire down, Cooper said.
Crews arrived to find a small amount of fire on the exterior wall next to a large recycling bin. The first engine crew to arrive quickly put out the fire, then opened the exterior wall to check for any extension.
Damage was confined to the exterior, with no extension into the building, Cooper said. Damage was estimated at about $3,500, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
