Knopp bill to honor fallen war veterans advances

KTVZ

A bill sponsored by state Sens. Tim Knopp, R-Bend, and Alan Olsen, R-Canby, to honor fallen war veterans every month passed the Senate Veterans and Emergency Preparedness Committee on Tuesday.

Senate Bill 573 encourages Oregonians to honor and remember those who have given their lives in military service in war at noon on the 21st day of each month.

It is based on the patriotic symbolism of the number 21: it being the 21st century; the honor of a 21-gun salute; associating with the Tomb of the Unknowns; and the sum of the numbers “1776.”

Following passage of the bill, Knopp released the following statement:

“Our veterans deserve honor, respect and recognition for their duty and sacrifice. We must continue to remember those who have dedicated their lives to military service.”
