NWS: Bend area saw a cooler, wetter April

According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton temperatures at the Bend Airport averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of April.

The average temperature was 42.5 degrees which was 1.1 degrees below normal. High Temperatures averaged 54.8 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees below normal. The highest was 66 degrees on the 6th. Low temperatures averaged 30.1 degrees, which was 0.3 degrees below normal. The lowest was 21 degrees, on the 1st.

There were 16 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 1.02 inches during April, which was 0.24 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 10 days with the heaviest, 0.34 inches reported on the 14th.

Precipitation this year has reached 4.65 inches, which is 0.52 inches above normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Bend has been 10.09 inches, which is 1.77 inches above normal.

The highest wind gust was 54 mph, which occurred on the 7th.

The outlook for May from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and near to below normal precipitation. Normal highs for Bend rise from 61.0 degrees at the start of May to 68.0 degrees at the end of May. Normal lows rise from 33.0 degrees to 40.0 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.89 inches.
