KTVZ

The Leadership Redmond Class of 2017 is commissioning a bronze memorial sculpture to honor an outstanding citizen of Redmond, Kaye Eberhard, who passed away March 25 , 2016. They will be donating a beautiful and meaningful sculpture to be added to Redmond’s growing collection of art in public places.

Kaye was an elementary educator for 30 years, 26 of those years in the Redmond School District. Her special joy was helping children learn to read and develop a lifelong love of reading. Kaye graciously gave her time to many organizations in Redmond. She made everyone she met her friend.

“Kaye Eberhard epitomizes the giving spirit that helps make Redmond the warm welcoming community it is. This sculpture will be enjoyed by Redmond community members and visitors, and we hope it inspires a new generation of readers,” said Mike Elliott, the chair of the Leadership Redmond 2017 project.

The piece is the creation of James Haire, (the same artist who sculpted the statue of the children saluting the flag at the Redmond Fire Department). The sculpture is a life-sized child sitting on a stack of books reading. With the generous contribution of Mr. Haire the total project cost is $16,750. Leadership Redmond is raising the funds, and plan to reach their goal by their May 18 , 2017, graduation date.

“The response from the community has been amazing,” commented Brenda Turner, Leadership Redmond class member. With the help of the Redmond Committee for Art in Public Places and the City of Redmond, the art piece is scheduled to be installed this summer.

Anyone who would like to donate to the project may make checks payable to “Leadership Redmond” and send them in care of the Redmond Chamber of Commerce, 446 SW 7 th Redmond, OR 97756. The donation is tax deductible.
