Crook County Library announces summer reading program

KTVZ

The Summer Reading Program is Crook County Library’s flagship literacy program for all ages. From June 1 to August 1 , the library will bring free events, free books and more to Prineville and the greater Crook County community and encourage all residents to “Build a Better World.”

In the spirit of this year’s theme, Crook County Library invites patrons to try something new this summer: at home, in the community, throughout the country, and around the globe. This year’s events will give Crook County residents a chance to try bird-watching, cooking, amateur geology, gardening, hydraulics… the list goes on.

In addition to being a lot of fun, the Summer Reading Program encourages Crook County residents of all ages to read for pleasure and to use library resources during the summer.

Those who register for the Summer Reading Program will receive a reading log with age-appropriate benchmarks. Participants who meet those benchmarks will receive prizes and a chance to win a Grand Prize.

For children and teens, a casual, regular reading habit is critical for maintaining and building literacy skills, especially when school is not in session. Kids also benefit from seeing the adults in their lives reading for fun.

Registration for the reading log portion of the program begins at midnight on Thursday, June 1 and continues through Friday, June 30 . Summer Reading events continue through August 1 . All events are free of charge.

Located in central Prineville, Crook County Library provides traditional and innovative library resources and programming to Crook County residents of all ages. It is a place where people come together for lifelong learning, enjoyment, and connection. To learn more, visit us at www.crooklib.org or call us at (541) 447-7978 .
