In an effort to improve the lives of our native youth, the Oregon Community Foundation has awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County a grant to support healthy lifestyles activities at the Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club.

This funding initiative supports the effort to combat the serious health risks that disproportionately affect our native youth. These include diabetes, obesity, chronic illness and an overall lower life expectancy.

The BGCSC’s TriplePlay Healthy Habits program focuses on increasing the health and wellness of our youth and combating childhood obesity through nutrition education, increased physical fitness and access to healthy foods. While achieving these goals, the Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club supports and promotes the children’s cultural heritage.

Agencies nationwide agree that poor health and malnutrition negatively impact our children in the areas of health, cognitive development, and academic performance.

Bill Tsoukalas, executive director of BGCSC, states, “Our Native youth are particularly at-risk and we are grateful for the generous support of the Oregon Community Foundation. Their partnership and support of our TriplePlay Healthy Habits program will help us address the critical health issues that plague our tribal members.”.
