Campgrounds opening across Deschutes National Forest
The Deschutes National Forest and Hoodoo Recreation plan to have more than 50 campgrounds open by Thursday, in time for Memorial Day weekend.
Hoodoo employees are currently moving snow, cutting hazardous trees, clearing debris and inspecting campsites to ensure that the maximum number of campgrounds will be ready for Memorial Day weekend. Higher-elevation campgrounds remain inaccessible due to the accumulated snowpack. These campgrounds will open as snowmelt allows.
Visitors are encouraged to check http://hoodoorecreation.com/ to ensure campgrounds are currently open before planning a trip. Visitors will find current information about each campground, including opening dates, rates, size, location, amenities and maps. Visitors can also use https://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/deschutes/recreation to check on the status of campgrounds, trails, picnic areas, boat launches and other recreation areas.
Many campsites on the Deschutes National Forest can be reserved online at https://www.recreation.gov/ or by calling 877-444-6777 . Most campgrounds also include sites that are available without a reservation on a first-come, first-serve basis.
