Redmond teen arrested in DUII crash that injured 2

An 18-year-old Redmond resident was arrested on drunk-driving, assault and reckless endangering charges early Saturday morning after the pickup he was driving crashed just west of Redmond, injuring two of the three young people riding with him, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

The sheriff’s office got a call just after 6 a.m. reporting a possible crash in the area of Southwest Helmholtz Way and Highway 126, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jayson Janes. A passenger also called 911 to advise of victims bleeding from the head.

Deputies found the crashed 2015 GMC Sierra in the area of Helmholtz Way and Obsidian Avenue, Janes said.

An investigation determined the pickup driven by Jaime Vasquez was heading south on Helmholtz Way and failed to negotiate a corner, Janes said. The truck left the road, struck two corner directional signs, went through a fence and came to a rest in a field, the sergeant said.

Vasquez was accompanied in the pickup by Jessica Walton, also 18 and of Redmond, and two juvenile females, also from Redmond, according to Janes.

Deputies also determined that Vasquez was driving under the influence of intoxicants, Janes said.

Vasquez and Walton were unhurt, but the two juvenile passengers were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Redmond with what Janes said were “unknown injuries.”

Vasquez was arrested and lodged at the county jail in Bend on charges of DUII-alcohol, three counts of reckless endangering and two counts of fourth-degree assault. He also was cited for driving without an Oregon driver license and failure to maintain a lane.

A jail officer said Vasquez was released to a third party around 10 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Redmond police and fire departments, Janes said.
