Madras stolen motorcycle chase leads to crash, arrest
Police spotted a stolen motorcycle in Madras and tried to stop it early Wednesday morning, triggering a five-mile high-speed pursuit, a crash and the arrest of the Warm Springs man riding it as he tried to run away, Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins said.
Madras police and sheriff’s deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop of the stolen motorcycle around 5:45 a.m. Adkins said.
The rider, later identified as Edward Francis Jones, 24, of Warm Springs, attempted to flee, leading police on a five-mile pursuit, reportedly at speeds up to 100 mph.
Jones lost control of the motorcycle on Northeast Henderson Road near Loucks Road and crashed, Adkins said. He tried to run from the scene but was detained.
After being checked out by medics, Jones was taken to the county jail by Madras police. He was being held on $55,000 bail, facing charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude police with a vehicle, reckless driving and methamphetamine possession.
