Redmond High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MJROTC) Academic Team recently returned from Washington, D.C., where they placed eighth in the Marine Corps JROTC Academic Bowl Championship.

“Our team has a lot to be proud of for placing in the top eight nationally against some of the best schools in the country,” retired Lieutenant Colonel Doug Seal said. “Along with performing at a high level at the national championship, our students had a great opportunity to tour our nation’s capital and build relationships with other JROTC students from across the United States.”

Redmond High’s Academic Team includes team captain senior Kason Rondot, senior Alex Cozine, senior Randy Garcia and junior Megan Kolkman. The team is led by Seal and retired Master Gunnery Sergeant Mike Trammel, both of the United States Marine Corps.

When not competing, the Redmond High team visited several national monuments, Arlington National Cemetery and got as close as possible to the White House for a photo opportunity.

“Competing in the academic championship was one of the best experiences of my life,” Kolkman said. “I’ll never forget touring Washington, D.C. and meeting fellow JROTC students from all over the country.”

The College Options Foundation hosted the annual Marine Corps Junior ROTC Academic Bowl Championship at The Catholic University of America from June 23 -27.

College Options Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the academic development of high school students and assisting them in their preparation for higher education.
