Portland police ID 2 men killed in apartment fire

KTVZ

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have released the identities of the two men killed in what investigators say was a deliberately set fire at an apartment complex in Portland last weekend.

Portland police say the victims were 24-year-old Taher Ali Alhaji and 42-year-old Jason Miller. A 28-year-old man named Ryan Thomas Monaco was arrested for investigation of aggravated murder and first-degree arson.

In court documents, investigators said that Alhaji and Miller were roommates of Monaco’s on-again, off-again girlfriend. She told detectives they had an argument and after she left, he called to say he soaked her couch with gasoline.

KOIN-TV reported that Alhaji was a Portland State University student from Saudi Arabia.
