Redmond couple enter pleas in daughter’s abuse death
A Redmond couple entered not-guilty pleas to murder by abuse and manslaughter charges Thursday in the alleged child-neglect death of their 5-year-old adopted daughter four days before Christmas.
A June 5, 2018 trial date was set Wednesday for Estevan Adrian Garcia, 34, and Sacora Horn-Garcia, 31, who were arrested in early April and face charges of murder, two counts of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment.
An omnibus motion hearing is set for January 8 and two more hearings in May, according to court records.
The state medical examiner said the couple’s daughter Maliyah Hope Garcia, died of emaciation. Authorities alleged lack of food and medical attention contributed to her death.
The girl was Garcia’s daughter and Horn-Garcia’s stepdaughter.
