A new fundraising record was set at this year’s First Story Charity Golf Tournament & Opening Night Bash. The event raised $233,000 over the two-day event. “I can’t thank our sponsors enough. I am humbled by the outpouring of support,” executive director and tournament host Claire Duncan said. The funds set a new single-year record for the charity event which has now raised $1.5 million since 2005. “New Home Star believes in giving back in meaningful ways which is why we are so supportive of First Story,” said David Rice, Founder of New Home Star. “First Story provides invaluable homeownership opportunities. We are honored to support the event and an organization that is doing so much to change the lives of those in the local communities we serve.” All funds raised provide needed single-family affordable housing. The neon-themed opening night bash kicked things off with song favorites from the 80’s and the tournament attracted a sold-out field of 36 foursomes with players coming from all over the country. The Championship trophy went to the team from Windermere Walla Walla with 2nd place being awarded to Bend locales playing for Stereo Planet. “The Tetherow Golf Club goes above and beyond hosting us. It is a beautiful setting, a world-class course and their staff does a fantastic job,” added Duncan. The nonprofit is in its 19th year of providing affordable home ownership opportunities to deserving work-force families. First Story receives funding through its annual golf tournament and bash, gifts from individuals and corporations and through donations at www.firststory.org.
