Escaped psychiatric patient found at Kah-Nee-Ta

A psychiatric patient who escaped from custody Friday at a Highway 97 rest area in Wasco County was located Sunday in the area of the Kah-Nee-Ta resort on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, Oregon State Police said.

Warm Springs police advised OSP that Rodrick Edminston, 22, was found shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday “in a restroom in the vicinity of the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort.” No other information was disclosed.

OSP had requested the public’s help Saturday in finding Edmonston, who escaped from custody Friday at the Cow Canyon Rest Area while being transported from a psychiatric facility in Pendleton to Bend.

OSP dispatchers were notified Friday by J&R Secure Transport of Pendleton that Edmonston had escaped their custody at the rest area, located about 21 miles south of Maupin, said OSP Sgt. Michael Berland.

OSP and the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office responded and conducted a search of the area but could not find Edminston, Berland said.

Edminston was not restrained during transport and was not armed, Berland said. However, he was classified as “dangerous” by Lifeways Inc., which said he was under a mental health hold.

No criminal charges are pending against Edminston, who is classified as schizophrenic, the sergeant said, adding that he has no known family or friends in the immediate area he was last seen.
