Gov. Kate Brown announces re-election bid

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has formally announced she will run for re-election.
 
Brown, who made the announcement Monday via a press statement and a YouTube video, ran for the same office in last November’s election. That’s because on Feb. 18, 2015, she shifted over from being Oregon’s secretary of state to governor when John Kitzhaber resigned the state’s top office amid an influence-peddling inquiry.
 
Brown then had to run in the 2016 primary and election to fill the remaining two years of Kitzhaber’s term. Now, she aims to go for a full four-year term in the May primary and the November 2018 election.
 
Her campaign has raised at least $1,250,146 in cash since Jan. 1.
 
Knute Buehler, a Republican state lawmaker, is also running and has raised at least $1,132,726.
