Civil War-themed fundraiser brings Bend rivals together

KTVZ

Just two weeks before the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers face off in Eugene, two local non-profits held a Civil War-themed auction Thursday night.

In a rare showing of cooperation between the two fan bases, a lot of money was raised for Economic Development for Central Oregon and Boys and Girls Clubs of Bend.

Representatives of both organizations said they play off each other in a way that helps lots of people in Central Oregon.

“Without the Boys and Girls Club, our community would not be what it is,” Boys and Girls Club representative Peter Yonan said. “It’s for youth that might not have the support or services to find a place to go that supports them after school and brings continuity to their lives.”

“I think for EDCO, it’s really about helping the families of those kids have better jobs in the region,” EDCO CEO Roger Lee said. “Our job’s really focused on increasing the types of jobs here, as well as the diversity of the types of jobs here in the Central Oregon region.”

The Civil War game will be played on Nov. 25 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.
