Klamath County SO: Driver shot from another car on Hwy. 66

A 28-year-old man was seriously wounded Monday afternoon by gunshots fired from one vehicle into another on Highway 66 in Klamath County, sheriff’s deputies said as they sought tips to help identify and find a suspect..

Deputies and Klamath Falls police responded around 4:20 p.m. to Sky Lakes Medical Center on a man being treated for gunshot wounds, said Lt. Randall Swan.

Hospital staff had called 911 dispatchers to report the man was brought to the hospital by private car and that surgery was being performed for serious injuries to his head and face, Swan said, adding that the victim’s name was being withheld.

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. on Highway 66 between Stewart Lennox and Keno, the lieutenant said.

Swan on Tuesday identified an older brown pickup truck that reportedly had been following the victim’s vehicle. But he said Wednesday the vehiocle had been located and was of no further interest.

No arrests have been made, Swan said, and the case is under active investigation for the crimes of attempted muirder, reckless driving, reckless endangering, first-degree assault, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.

The sheriff’s office is looking for witnesses to the alleged careless or reckless driving incident that occurred westbound on Hwy 66 between Stewart Lennox and Keno on Monday between 3 and 4 p.m..
