OSP seeks tips in E. Oregon illegal elk killing

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have asked for the public’s help in finding whoever is responsible for the illegal killing of an elk in the Owyhee Canal outside of Ontario.

Oregon State Police Sgt. Kaipo Raiser says an officer from its Fish and Wildlife Division found the skinned carcass Dec. 8. The animal’s front shoulders were nearby, and its head and lower legs had been removed.

There was a long rope attached to the neck and a short rope holding the rear legs together.

The Oregon Hunters Association through its Turn-In-Poachers program has offered a reward for information leading to an arrest. Callers can remain anonymous, and the number is 1-800-452-7888.
