Police are investigating a fight involving numerous people in a downtown Madras parking lot early Saturday that sent a man with an apparent knife wound to the hospital.
Madras Police Detective Sergeant Steve Webb said officers responded around 2 a.m. to the reported assault in a parking lot on Southwest D Street near Fourth Street.
Arriving officers found 20-30 people involved, many who fled as police showed up, Webb sid. A Jefferson County man with the apparent knife wound across his upper body was taken by Jefferson County EMS to St. Charles Madras for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Webb said in a news release that police are contacting and interviewing witnesses and have “determined there is no danger to the community.” Alcohol was a factor in the altercation, he told NewsChannel 21.
Oregon State Police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies are assisting in the continuing investigation, Webb said, adding that no names or other details are being released at this time.
Community members with any information that could assist in the investigation were urged to contact Madras police Detective Dan Farrester or Officer J.J. Wallace through Frontier Dispatch at 541-475-2201.
