Redmond schools mark School Board Recognition Month
The Redmond School District will join the other 196 school districts throughout Oregon to celebrate January as “School Board Recognition Month,” Superintendent Mike McIntosh said Tuesday.
Gov. Kate Brown signed an official proclamation in October, designating the month of January for recognition of the state’s school board members.
“Our school board members spend countless hours of unpaid time working to provide the best possible education for our students,” McIntosh said. “They also serve as the corporate board of directors for our community’s largest employer. Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”
As elected officials, the board is responsible for the scope, depth and quality of education and is the official policy-making body of the school district.
In addition to establishing policies for the operation of the district, the board defines the philosophy of the district, determines educational goals and standards, authorizes curriculum revision or development, and approves personnel recommendations.
“The efforts of our board largely go unrecognized, but they are a vital component of our district and community, and we couldn’t deliver on our education goals without their tireless work,” McIntosh said.
