Ex-DCSO jail worker accused of violating court order
A former contract kitchen worker at the Deschutes County jail who allegedly had a sexual relationship with an inmate was arrested again, accused of violating her release agreement by contacting him, according to court documents.
According to investigators, April Hoisington-Kite, 43, of Bend, had inappropriate sexual contact with Stephen Rechner last year.
According to court documents, on Jan. 5., sheriff’s Detective Doug Jackson was checking the Telmate phone system and observed two text messages and two phone calls made by Rechner and Hoisington-Kite.
The conversations began on Dec. 28 and continued through Jan. 7, he said.
Jackson said he recognized the phone number and the female voice to be that of Hoisington-Kite.
“These calls continue to violate a court ordered no contact order restraining Hoisington-Kite from having contact with inmate Rechner,” Jackson wrote in the court document.
Jackson said when inmates call from the jail, a message is played advising the person on the other end of the call who is calling and from where.
The conversations lasted a couple of minutes, the detective said, and they would talk about the possibility of getting in trouble for having contact.
One conversation lasted seven minutes and 11 seconds, in which they allegedly discussed getting together after Rechner gets out of jail and helping him look for a job.
According to court documents, they also talked about Hoisington-Kite picking Rechner up upon his release from jail and going to April’s house, as well as discussions about her plea hearing.
Last month, the sheriff’s office said Hoisington-Kite had worked four months as a contract worker in the jail’s kitchen.
Investigators said the relationship between her and Rechner developed over a two-week period prior to her arrest.
A bench warrant was issued on Wednesday for violating her agreement, and Hoisington-Kite was taken into custody on Friday.
Hoisington-Kite posted the $1,000 security on her $10,000 bail on Sunday. She has a plea hearing scheduled on Jan. 30.
