Two Bend 15-year-olds arraigned in shooting case
Two 15-year-olds allegedly involved in a shooting in northwest Bend were arraigned Tuesday. Both Israel Garcia and Brandon Rodas made a video appearance in court.
Garcia, who allegedly fired a gun during a marijuana robbery attempt at an apartment near the Central Oregon Community College campus that seriously injured a 16-year-old Bend boy, made a brief appearance.
When Rodas came up for his hearing, by video link from the Deschutes County juvenile detention center, his defense attorney argued that because he did not fire the weapon and was simply there at the scene, his $250,000 bail should be reduced.
But the prosecution said the 16-year-old victim’s family wants the bail to stay the same, saying Rodas “chose to be part of a robbery that resulted in (their) son’s lifelong, debilitating injury,” which they said was both physical and mental.
Plea hearings for both teens were set for Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m. The alleged getaway driver, Jesus Salvador Diego, is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
