Eugene man sentenced to federal prison for selling heroin

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene man who authorities say sold heroin to an acquaintance who died the same day from a drug overdose in early 2015 was sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison.

The Register-Guard reports 40-year-old Clint Cheyenne Ochodnicky was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Eugene after pleading guilty to distributing heroin.

Federal prosecutor Jeffrey Sweet says that while Ochodnicky was not directly charged for the death, his role in it is undeniable.

Court records do not identify the man who died.

Ochodnicky spent more than nine months in custody after his 2015 arrest. He’s expected to serve up to a year in prison.

Ochodnicky will then have three years of supervised release and must attend a court program that transitions people from prison to the community.
