Redmond firefighters stop escaped field burn
Winds kicked up a field burn and sent it spreading out of control south of Redmond on Thursday, bringing out firefighters who had it out in about 20 minutes, officials said.
Redmond firefighters were called around 12:40 p.m. to the fire in the 6600 block of Southwest 46th Street, Battalion Chief Jeff Puller said. They found the fire burning into several large spruce and pine trees.
The fire, which Puller said was Redmond firefighters’ first grass and brush fire of the season, burned about a half-acre before being stopped.
The property owner was not fined, as burning was not closed for the day. Puller said winds in Redmond had been calm, while areas to the south “seemed to experience many micro-bursts of extreme wind.”
