Bend police arrest pitchfork-wielding car theft suspect
A wanted Damascus, Oregon man was arrested Saturday afternoon near the Bend Target store after he allegedly hit a pickup stolen out of Woodburn with a pitchfork and broke out a window after trying to start it, police said.
Officers were dispatched around 1 p.m. to the store on North Highway 97 on a report of a suspicious man, Sgt. Bob Jones said Monday.
The male was reported holding a pitchfork as he yelled at people and began hitting a pickup truck with it, Jones said. The man then got into the truck and broke out a window after trying to start it.
Jones said officers arrived and contacted the man, identified as Kyle Griffin, 27, as he walked to a nearby business, taking him into custody without incident.
Griffin was taken to the Deschutes County Jail, where he remained Monday on $136,000 bail, facing felony charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and first-degree criminal mischief, misdemeaanor second-degree disorderly conduct and three out-of-county warrants, one a felony and two misdemeanors.
