Curbside recycling pickup under threat in Oregon cities

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Curbside recycling pickup is on the chopping block in some Oregon communities.

The recycling market across the United States has been in a state of upheaval since Jan. 1, when China started no longer accepting certain paper and plastic mixes. This has led to a sharp drop in the demand for recyclables at processing facilities.

The Herald and News reports that curbside recycling pickup may end in Klamath Falls if customers are unwilling to pay more for the service.

Meanwhile, the East Oregonian reports that curbside recycling is already coming to an end in Milton-Freewater, and the Medford Mail Tribune reports there are new restrictions on what type of material will be picked up in some Rogue Valley communities.
